Week 8 Late Nights...

By Max Shuyu Li

Introduction

This week was a ton of late-night coding, exciting progress, and the kind of team bonding that only comes from debugging together at 2 AM. As we wrap up Week 8 of development, Harmony is getting closer to becoming the AI-powered companion we’ve envisioned. Let’s dive into the highlights!

Breaking Ground: Harmonizing Features

Our dev and design teams have been working hard to bring features to life. Here’s what we did this week:

  • AI Journal Entries: Harmony can now create journal entries using both text and voice. Whether you're in a typing mood or feel like chatting, Harmony’s got you covered.
  • Voice Streaming: Harmony officially has a voice, thanks to Google’s voice detection and Voice Maker!
  • Journal Enhancements: Added an “All” tab for entries to make everything easily accessible.
  • Deployment Prep: We’re laying the groundwork for user testing by pushing the app to production (more on that in our late-night saga below).
  • Up Next: Integrating journal entries into the calendar and adding attendance tracking for next week.

Design Delights

Our design team kept the momentum going with user-focused updates:

  • Micro-Interactions: Popups and snackbars are adding polish and personality to the UI.
  • Presentation Materials: Brochures and printable cards are ready to shine for our final demo.
  • Landing Page Vision: Planning the perfect first impression for our app.

Late Nights...

Let’s talk about the real MVPs of the week: Angus and Vitor. When it came time to push to prod, they prepared themselves for the kind of chaos that only deployment can bring.

It’s late at night, and Angus and Vitor are in the trenches, battling vague server errors and environmental variables. After hours of troubleshooting, tweaking docker files, and more than a few moments of frustration, the app is live.

Their efforts mean we’re now set up for our first round of user testing—a huge milestone for the team!

Looking Ahead

Next week, we’re diving into user testing with one goal: making Harmony as robust and intuitive as possible. We’ll be gathering feedback and fine-tuning features based on the results.

Final Thoughts

This week was a reminder that building something meaningful takes more than just good ideas—it takes teamwork, resilience, and a willingness to tackle challenges head-on. From late-night pushes to deployment to refining features, we’ve seen the best of what our team can do.

Stay tuned for more updates as we keep building Harmony!
